Captains Welcome

It is with great pleasure that I welcome all players, members, supporters and referees to Lansdowne FC. It is a huge honour to Captain this great club for a year’s group. I have been fortunate enough to play in the All Ireland League for the past 6 seasons and it is great to see the league going from strength to strength and to see Lansdowne FC being the standard bearers. The facilities, coaching staff and support structures that Lansdowne provides within the club are second to none and have led to our success at all levels in the seasons gone.

We are fortunate to retain the services of Mike Ruddock and Mark McHugh as first team coaches, ably supported by Will Matthews. David Tighe remains as conditioning coach having taken over from Ciaran Walsh mid-way through last year’s season and has really put his own stamp on the strength and conditioning aspect of training. A welcome addition to the backroom staff, the club has introduced Damian O’Sullivan as a nutritionist to assist players performance both on and off the field.  Andy McDonagh continues in his role of Physiotherapist and his tireless input over the season is appreciated by all.  Additionally, the back room team of Steve Rooney (Director of Rugby), Colin Goode (Chairman of Rugby) and Paddy Gore and Brian Corrigan (Managers) remain intact with the welcome additions.  We simply could not be as successful as we are without their tireless input.

I would like to congratulate the many Lansdowne players who have been honoured to receive representative colours based on their endeavours last season. I’d like to congratulate Oisin Dowling, Greg McGrath, Ronan Kelleher and Tadgh Mcilroy on their involvement with the Irish U20’s last season, with a special mention to Tadgh who has joined the Saracens academy for the coming season, I wish him best of luck with what I know will be a successful stint at the European champions. I’d like to congratulate Adam Leavy, John O’Donnell and Ian Fitzpatrick on their huge effort and involvement in the Irish 7’s squad who qualified for the 7’s World Cup as well as for the Hong Kong 7’s which in turn gives them the opportunity to qualify for the World series.  I wish them and the rest of the Irish 7’s squad the best of luck in the coming season. I’d also like to congratulate Tom Daly, Peter Dooley and Max Deegan on graduating from the Leinster academy and wish them all the best in the coming season.

While there have been departures from the senior squad, we are excited to welcome back some familiar faces from previous successful campaigns. This, along with a large number of very promising graduates from the JP Fanagan winning U20s squad from last year, has generated healthy competition for places this year. To those players who have moved on from Lansdowne, I would like to thank you for your efforts and wish you the best of luck in the future.

Finally, on behalf of all the players, I would like to thank all the sponsors, especially Zurich, as they continue to promote and contribute to the success of Lansdowne FC at all ages from the mini’s right up to our Senior teams. To our President Michael (Butch) Cassidy and his committees, I wish you all the best in your roles and thank you for your support to date. Best of luck to all players who will wear the Lansdowne colours this season and I look forward to seeing you all in the bar for some light refreshments…
