Presidents Welcome

It is a great privilege as President of Lansdowne Football Club to welcome you to the 2017-18 season. As we enter into our 145th year, with a strong preseason campaign behind us, we can eagerly anticipate exciting times both on and off the pitch.

I am delighted to congratulate Ian Prendiville on his election to Club and 1st team Captain for the second year in a row. Ian demonstrated extraordinary leadership last year and it is to his credit that the team elected him again. We look forward to a strong, injury free UBL campaign. Thanks as always must go to the excellent and tireless support, coaching and management that goes on thanks to Mike Ruddock, Colin Goode, Stephen Rooney, Paddy Gore to name just a few.

The junior teams had a tough season last year but there have been great strides behind the scenes driven by Marc Flood and Ian Hopkins and they start afresh and revitalized looking forward to the months ahead.

Ed Lyons handed over the U20s mantle to Mark McMahon and we can’t thank Ed enough for all the work he has done over the years and hope that we will be able to tempt him back into the volunteering fold in the future. Tim Murphy is taking over from Brian Larkin as U20s Captain. Tim is in his second year with the U20s having joined us from Newbridge College 2 years ago. He impressed so much last year that he was Capped by Leinster A as an U19 and was involved with the Leinster U20s. We wish him the best of luck in his role.

The Youth & Minis section of the club is ever growing ably led by Kieran Walsh and Owen Lydon. Special thanks also to Catherine Walsh who has been developing the social and volunteering side over the past couple of years.

Any club would not exist without the support of their sponsors and Lansdowne are no different. Our relationship with Zurich continues and we are delighted with the ongoing support from An Post, Mazars, Sogeti, Knight Frank, G4S, First Citizen, Heineken, Dillon Eustace, Aryzta, Newcastle Design, Hunters, O’Briens Bar, Park Developments, Brooks Group and The Chophouse.

The business of Rugby cannot proceed without the commercial activities of the club and in that spirit, we encourage you to bring your event business to Lansdowne. Whether it is a significant birthday, a conference or team building event, the clubhouse has state of the art of facilities and you can rest assured you and your guests will be welcomed in a professional and friendly manner by our team.

I’d like to call on all club members to support the Trustees and the Executive in any way they can, either by volunteering or supporting ALL the teams in Lansdowne. Lansdowne FC needs all the help and support it can get, it’s your club!

Here’s to a very successful 2017-18 season for all our teams.

Michael Cassidy

President 2017-18
