Leinster U13 Metro Cup Final.
Lansdowne 17 Suttonians 14
History was made on Sunday when our U13s became the first Lansdowne team to win a Leinster Metro cup at Youth level.
A combination of tenacious tackling back our backline and superb rucking by our pack saw off a very fancied Suttonians side.
Lansdowne took the game right to the opposition from the start and were eventually rewarded after 20 mins with a well worked try out wide from Rob Muldowney.
Myles Carey hit the post with the difficult conversion.
Lansdowne were held up a few minutes before the break after mauling out from their 22.
The powerful Suttonians No 8, Jessie Iredale picked form the base of the scrum and scored under the post. The try was converted.
Immediately after the break Lansdowne went on the offensive and after a series of rucks and mauls, Adam Curry powered his way over the line on the right
Myles Carey converted well to put Lansdowne 12-7 ahead.
With 10 mins remaining, Alex Kinahan broke into midfield passed to Alex Caslin who managed to fix two of the Suttonians backline before feeding to the diminutive Dan O’Leary
who raced 40 meters to score a wonderful try in the corner. We missed the conversion.
To their credit, Suttonians came back with a well worked try 2 minutes from the end.
