Mike Sayers played for Bereshot Seranas as well as for Lansdowne. He played his first game in 1935, one of 4 new caps. The famous Gerry Morgan was at scrum half partnered at out half by another Lansdowne man Aidan Bailey who had been capped the previous season as a school boy from Pres Bray.
Mike won further caps (10 in all) up to 1939 when internationals were discontinued because of the 2nd World War. He was on the Irish team that won the championship in 1936.
In his second last match against Scotland at Lansdowne Road he scored a goal from a mark (a variety in those days) which contributed to Ireland’s win.
