J.J.D. (Seamus) Byrne

A product of the Newbridge College nursery where he also showed great promise as an athlete where he won Leinster Schools titles in the 100 and 200 yards.

He joined Lansdowne in 1951 and was part of Conor Crowley’s cup winning team in 1953.

He played for Leinster and in his first game for Ireland against Scotland at Murrayfield he scored 3 tries showing amazing speed and swerve as Scotland had a big win 26 – 8.  In the next game against Wales he scored a further try.  He only played 4 seasons with the Club after which he emigrated to the USA where he became a medical doctor and in the process probably missing out on further caps.
