Mick “The Kick” Kiernan was Ireland’s Triple Crown hero in 1985 when he dropped the goal to win the match that sealed Ireland’s Triple Crown. Mick won 7 of his 43 caps while playing centre with Lansdowne during the 1983/84 and 1984/85 season.

The balances of his caps were won with Dolphin when he returned in the 1985/86 season. Michael was selected in the Irish squad for the inaugural World Cup on Australia and New Zealand in 1997 which was captained Donal Lenihan. He played against Canada in the pool game and against Australia in the quarter final which Ireland lost 33-15. He had the satisfaction of scoring 2 penalty goals, 1 drop goal and 5 conversions in the Canada game and 1 try, 2 conversions and 1 penalty goal against Australia.
