Ray Carroll

His rugby career began at Castleknock College where he captained the Leinster Schools senior cup winning team of 1944.  On joining Lansdowne in 1945 he quickly made the First XV which he captained to Leinster Senior Cup success in 1950, whilst meanwhile playing with Leinster and Ireland where he teamed up with the doyen of outhalves, Jackie Kyle.  He also played in Lansdowne with Seamus Kelly a splendid outhalf who went on to play for Ireland also.

On his retirement in 1953 he engaged in Committee work and many a scrum half benefitted from his shrewd advice.  He went on to serve as a Leinster and Irish selector and was President of the Club in the 1980/’81 season when the Club won the Leinster Senior Cup and League and 3 Leinster Junior Cups.  He was also the Club’s representative on the Leinster Branch IRFU.
