Gordon began his career as a full back, moved to the wing for Leinster and is now an international outside centre. He won his first senior international cap against Romania in the 1998 Rugby World Cup and his second, also as a replacement, against Fiji in the centre two seasons ago. Darce made the big breakthrough in 2004 in the RBS Six Nations when selected for Ireland at outside centre in place of the injured Brian O'Driscoll. He made a stunning return to the international arena with his searing runs, subtle off-loads and bone-crunching defence. His form was impressive enough to hold on to his position, and O'Driscoll was selected at inside centre when he returned. Gordon's game went from strength to strength and he was later selected in a BBC poll as Player of the Six Nations Championship and won numerous accolades at home including "Players Player of the Season. He was recently nominated for the IRB Senior player of the year award. 2004/05 was a difficult season for D'Arcy as he managed just 25 minutes against Italy in Ireland's Six Nations opener last February, missing the rest of the tournament due to a troublesome hamstring strain. Despite this injury he still managed to be selected, alongside fellow Lansdowne man Shane Horgan, in the 2005 British & Irish Lions squad.
