Eddie’s Return, But Lansdowne Prevail

Jan 25, 2014

On a bitterly cold afternoon Lansdowne welcomed struggling Garryowen to Lansdowne Rd. After a defeat away to table toppers Clontarf, Lansdowne had to bounce back and claim valuable home points and if possible, the bonus point. Lansdowne bounced back ok but not as convincingly as was expected, but in fairness, Garryowen are fighting for their survival and look a different outfit since Eddie O'Sullivan was announced as an advisor to Tom Tierney and his coaching team at the club in early January.

Lansdowne opened the scoring on 19 minutes with a penalty from Scott Deasy. Deasy converted a penalty try that was awarded in the 39th minute after a sustained period of Lansdowne pressure. Garryowen scored two penalties in quick succession until Deasy restored Lansdowne's lead at 13-6. This was Lansdowne's last score of the game and Garryowen narrowed the gap with a penalty in the 66th minute to 13-9.

Lansdowne persevered and claimed the victory.
