Lansdowne U13 Lose Out To DLSP In Metro Cup QF

Apr 21, 2015

Lansdowne U13 were pipped at the post by a dramatic late injury time try by DLSP in the Quarter Final of the Metro Cup. Closing out the game at 11-7, DLSP who had led for most of the game through two penalties, only to succumb to continuous Lansdowne pressure which left DLSP adrift by 1, picked themselves up and scored an unconverted try to take the spoils in Ballycorus.

Lansdowne started the more promising of the two teams and early pressure could not deliver the points that would prove to be really necessary. Despite a Lansdowne forward pack on the front foot, DSLP took an early lead when Lansdowne were pinged for offside and this was repeated mid way through the first half when, again, DLSP showed a level of maturity to pick off another three points. in such a close fought encounter the two penalties would prove to be decisive and give DLSP that cushion which they held tight to the very end.

Lansdowne were not short of awarded penalties either but DLSP discipline meant that the penalties were not within kicking range.

The second half was a repeat of the first half and Lansdowne were unable to turn territorial possession into points. However, with minutes to go Lansdowne pressure was rewarded when JJ Hession broke though DLSP's cover to score a try which was duly converted by Ben Lockhart. Lansdowne were leading by 1 point.

In a mad scramble, a cross field kick by DLSP was gathered and their winger ran in to score in the corner. DLSP by 4 points.

The applause that met both teams as they left the pitch at the end of the game was testament to the competitive nature and high skill levels on display.
