Lansdowne Host Cork Con U11s

Nov 05, 2012

On a magnificent winter's Saturday morning Lansdowne U11 welcomed a touring party of over 40 from the doyens of Cork rugby, Cork Constitution  This is the second year that the Cork boys have made the trip and for those of us present last year we will never forget the deluge of biblical proportions we played in, so it was with a great degree of satisfaction that we hit the pitch in Lansdowne on Saturday morning under a bright but cold sun.

A year makes all the difference and there was a very noticeable approach in how the boys played the game. Indeed the entire set of games was played at a very high tempo and it was Cork Con who most definitely opened with the wind in their sails but in fairness to the hosts, we played ourselves back into the games and by end of session the teams were pretty much tied all square.

It was then back to the clubhouse for some grub and banter as a prelude for the serious business of the day - the meeting of the Lansdowne and Cork Ist XV in the All Ireland League. Alas, it was not to be Lansdowne's day as Cork Con stole a hard fought victory in the closing seconds by nailing a penalty to win by the slimmest of margins.

The Lansdowne U11s accompanied by the 1st XV will make the return leg to Cork Con in the new year where no doubt we will pick up where we left off last Saturday: the U11s doing what little boys do best - having fun, and the seniors doing what they do best - serving up thrilling rugby.

The future of rugby in both Lansdowne and Cork Con is in good hands and it is well supported by a joyful, competitive and great bunch of kids.
