Lansdowne U12 took part in the annual Fr. Gavin Willow Park Rugby Festival in the surroundings of the magnificent grounds of Willow Park School on Match 1st. In its 32nd year, this rugby festival attracts teams from all over Ireland and from the UK. The school, the organisers and the Willow boys must be acknowledged for the manner with which the blitz was organised; from the hospitality of the Willow mums in the marquee, the warm welcome afforded by the 'yellow' shirted Willow boys and the well marshaled official's set-up.
On a fresh and beautiful spring morning the Lansdowne team began their blitz against a traveling party from Wetherby in the UK. A win over Wertherby was followed by narrow 1 try losses to Stradbrook and St Mary's. Indeed, the 1 try losses can in part be attributed to the fact the playing up the hill (which Lansdowne were) in the first half gave an immediate advantage to the opponents.
The second session of games saw Lansdowne pitted against Garryowen, Gorey and Bray. Lansdowne fared better in the afternoon and recorded wins over Bray and Garryowen and losing out in a well contested game to Gorey.
The Fr. Gavin Willow Park Rugby Festival is a great celebration of rugby and Lansdowne FC look forward to playing again in 2015 and continuing this great rugby festival tradition.
