Lansdowne U17 Clinch Nail-Biting Leinster Schools Youth League Final

May 02, 2014

Terenure 5 - Lansdowne 7

Lansdowne U17 won the Leinster Schools Youth League Final for the first time last night in a thrilling, nail biting fashion when they overcame Terenure in Lakelands.

On a dark & drizzling evening conditions did not suit an expansive  game and with both teams contesting fiercely for possession the result was always going to be close. As it turned out all the scoring took place in the first half. After 15 minutes Lansdowne turned over the ball in the Nure 22 and after a couple of phases and good handling the ball was spun out to Shane Donnelly who outpaced the Terenure defence to score a try which was converted well by Jack Mulcahy.

A lapse in defence from the restart allowed Terenure to break through and score un unconverted try. This proved to be the last score of the game with the 2nd half played mostly in the Terenure half. Lansdowne were  unable to score the insurance try and this ensured that it was an exciting contest all the way to the final whistle

Credit to both sides for their efforts under the conditions.

Man of the Match: Richard Dunne

Both sides will meet again next Thursday May 8th , 19.00  in Lansdowne in the final of the Metro Cup
