Lansdowne U8, U10 & U12 Tour to Carrick on Shannon RFC

Nov 12, 2014

On a wet and dark Sunday morning 3 bus loads of U8, U10 & U12 players, coaches and parents departed from outside LFC and headed West across the Shannon to play a friendly against Carrick on Shannon RFC in Leitrim Village. After Ireland’s massive win against South Africa the day before, the boys were excited to emulate their heroes on the pitch.

For many of the Minis & Youths it was their first big “away trip” and the excitement of being on a bus with their team mates, parents and coaches was evident.
Head Coaches Hugh McGauran, Mel Duignan & Mick Galvin organised singsongs, quizzes and the essential pit stop at Applegreen in Enfield, to ensure that the journey was not too arduous.

Meanwhile, in Leitrim, Carrick were busy getting the Community Pitch and Clubhouse ready for the welcome. One parent indicated their young lad was up at 6:30am dressed in his full gear (including boots!) pacing the floor “When are Lansdowne arriving?”
The weather held and the pitch was perfect for the day, Carrick fielded competitive teams across all the age groups and the rugby was played in the true spirit of the game.
Afterwards we were well looked after in the Community pitch clubhouse with coffee, tea, sandwiches and hotdogs, party bags and loads of goodies for all the boys. The journey home was as eventful with further quizzes and fun on the bus.
