Navan RFC mourns the loss of a great coach

Jun 01, 2011

It is with great sadness that we report on the tragic death of Ciaran Conlon, a well known and respected rugby coach at mini and youth levels in Navan. Ciaran passed away last Friday and was buried on Monday on the day of his 46th birthday with a guard of honor from Navan RFC and Simonstown GFC, the two clubs that Ciaran dedicated his coaching time to. The huge funeral mass was testament to the high esteem with which Ciaran was held in the Navan community. Brian McKeever, Ciaran’s nephew, is a Lansdowne 1st XV stalwart so the rugby gene runs though the family.

Clubs across Leinster will probably not become aware of Ciaran's loss until the start of the new season when his absence from the sideline is noticed but for those who knew him, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of trust, respect and fair play. Navan RFC will continue as all great clubs do and we are all stronger, wiser and more compassionate for having known Ciaran.
