U10’s Trip Report – Cashel RFC, Sunday Nov 11th 2012
It was a special occasion for the first ever trip away for the U10’s of 2003 to Cashel, County Tipperary on Sunday November 11th
An early start for parents and kids, outside Elverys, Lansdowne Road at 7.45 am was followed by a bus trip amply supplied with rounds of quiz questions on everything from the first successful Roman invasion of Britain to the christian names of the members of Take That !
We were blessed with unseasonably fine November weather in Tipperary, a warm welcome and a great spread of food for both parents and players afterwards. As well as the customary presentation of medals between the clubs, Cashel presented us with a plaque to commemorate the occasion, which was unexpected and much appreciated.

Match
The game was divided into four quarters of 15 minutes each with our players being rotated regularly. The Cashel ‘last line of defence’ was particularly strong in first fifteen minutes but eventually Lansdowne broke through with great tries from Keir Mackay and Tom Barry and stalwart tackling from Arthur Williams, Matthew Jennings, Ross Duignan & Sam Berman. As Cashel were short a few players Paddy Fitzpatrick, Cian Ryan and Matthew Jennings swapped the colours of Lansdowne for the red of Cashel , it been emphasised that this was a very exceptional temporary measure ! Some breakaway Cashel tries in the second half were countered by strong play from Lansdowne & much improved rucking, resulting in classic Lansdowne tries after periods of pressure from Cashel

Cashel RFC - History Trivia
JJ Ryan gave us a funny and informative history of the rugby club, the town of Cashel and the friendly sporting rivalry between the families, the O’Connor and Ryan Clans in particular, especially at Christmas Rugby ‘friendlies, ’where teeth and hair are left behind after the match is over !

Quiz
Eoin ‘Quizmaster’ Tonge was co-master of ceremonies for the seven rounds of quiz questions, ranging from History, General Knowledge (2), Sport (2), Trivia and Music, the only two interruptions to this bus version of mastermind being the stoppages at Midway Portlaoise on the way down and Mayfield, Kildare on way back for nutritious selection of burgers, chips and soft drinks ! as well as the well-practiced and now team adopted singsong ‘Every where we go, people always ask us..’
All in all a great day out for players, coaches and parents & we look forward to a return trip to Tipp in 2013!

Mel Duignan, Head Coach Lansdowne U10’s
