Metro League : Lansdowne Sharks vs Blackrock
The Sharks had probably their best game of the season in their win over Blackrock RFC by a score of 5-2 with the forwards in particular having a great match. It is a measure of the progress the Sharks have made
given they drew with Blackrock in the home fixture before Christmas. The win was helped by the fact that there was nearly a full squad available that meant players could play in familiar positions as opposed to switching from where they play in training! Lansdowne had a great start with a fine individual effort from Kirill McGowan who scored straight from the kick off. Lansdowne continued to play well, retaining possession with great interplay between forwards and backs and some great rucking and mauling when the Blackrock defence stopped them. After some great passing between Cormac Dee-Brown, Eoin Little, James Dempsey and Peter McGuiness that brought us in to Blackrock territory the ball was eventually spun out to the backs where Louis Kearney broke a couple of tackles to score. Lansdowne continued keeping the pressure on with some great fielding from Jimmy Crowe when Blackrock cleared their lines with some deep kicks. With James Agnew and David Bell in particular straightening the running lines Lansdowne scored again though Jack Barry however Blackrock came back strongly scoring with a well worked try of their own just before halftime.
The second half was a tighter match with Blackrock gaining in confidence and keeping possession putting the defence under pressure. Again the forwards picked up the pace and after Cormac was tackled into touch very close the Blackrock line a great steal from Louis McCabe in the lineout led to Cormac getting his reward of another try. Some great defending kept Blackrock out and once again after keeping the ball alive for a number of phases Louis Kearney broke through to score his second try. Credit to Blackrock who kept coming at Lansdowne and were eventually rewarded with a try in the final few minutes. Thanks to Declan O’Sullivan who refereed the game and did his best to keep the match flowing.

Metro League : Lansdowne Cheetahs vs Blackrock
Lansdowne U12s Cheetahs were very unfortunate to lose narrowly to a Blackrock by a score of 4 tries to 3.
In the first half Lansdowne had the majority of possession but were guilty on many occasions of over playing the ball and losing it in possession at the vital moment. Rock capitalised on any error and in fairness their handling was excellent when they ran in 2 tries, again our tackling was poor, with the notable exception of Scott Healy. We played well in spots and some excellent mauling yielded a try from skipper Conor McGrath just before ½ time.
A stern talk at half time galvanised the team and they started the 2nd half with purpose, before yet another questionable refereeing decision allowed Rock to score again. The boys (and Dads) knew that the odds
were against us, and they played some devastating & committed rugby until the end of the match. An excellent move saw Eoin Mac Mahon touch down in the corner. Straight from the kick off Lansdowne rucked and offloaded before Ronan Shaw barnstormed his way over and we were back in it. Try as we could, and with time on their side, Lansdowne could not breach the Rock defence for the result they deserved.
The match was played in good spirit by the boys but unfortunately some of the refereeing decisions were considered to be very harsh with Lansdowne regularly being penalised while Blackrock were given allowed a
lot more latitude. This was difficult on the boys who played with great heart and passion.

Metro Match, Lansdowne Lions vs. Blackrock
The Lions played Blackrock in Stradbrook on Sunday 3 March 2013, Lansdowne winning by 3 tries. As with all of our games against Blackrock, this was a very competitive game between two enthusiastic sides. Lansdowne opened the scoring halfway through the first-half with a lovely try by Paddy Morgan after an excellent combination of forward and back play. Lansdowne continued to press and after a concerted forward effort, David Madigan picked up close to a winning ruck situation and ran the ball in from 10 yards for the team’s second score.
Blackrock upped the pressure in the second half and nearly scored a couple of times through their big forward pack. But the Lions held Rock out with some strong tackling and effective rucking by Tom Cullen &
Louis Clarke ably assisted by the rest of their team-mates, both backs and forwards. Lansdowne also had their opportunities and the backs, with Sam Small prominent, were unlucky not to cross the line. Lansdowne did finally score a third try through Harry Colbert.
