Dear Members

It was fantastic to see our minis and youths have their first training sessions in our new grounds at Claremont road last Sunday. Well done to Brian Moran and all our coaches and managers. The club is holding a meet and greet information meeting for our new neighbours in Sandymount on the evening of September 26th.

We have a load of rugby coming up this week. The Roosters (J1) kick things off on Friday night at home to Clontarf in their first league game (KO 7.30). Next up we have the J2 v Tullamore away in their league, and our u20’s take on MU Barnhall at home on Saturday (KO 2.00 pm).

They are followed by the 1sts who are at home to UCD in the Leinster senior cup kicking off at 5.00 pm. If our 1sts can win against UCD they will qualify for the senior cup final where it is likely they will face Terenure. This is all followed of course at 8pm with Ireland v Tonga which we will be showing on the screens in the clubhouse (as well as all the other world cup games). An action packed super day of club rugby for Lansdowne and it would be great to get a big support down for all the Lansdowne teams in action and of course Ireland!

Off the pitch there has also been plenty of activity whereby Mick Dawson has been appointed as club chairman which will see him oversee long-term strategic initiatives in the club and also the day to day operations and commercial activities of the club. There is a lot going on and having Mick there will be a huge assistance to the executive committee. Jack Dwan has also joined the exec as player representative taking over from John Sparks. This is vital role. Our players are the most important part of the club and Jack will make sure the club keeps its finger on the pulse with regard to our players needs and requirements.

The club are still looking for volunteers across the board. We are not looking for a large commitment of time for anyone involved so please do volunteer if you feel you can help. If you are interested please email info@lansdownerugby.com. It is much appreciated.

Subscriptions renewals are well under way so if you haven’t already please renew asap. We are always looking for new pavilion members (as well as players) so please do consider introducing new members to the club and if you not sure what you need to do just drop me a line. Our subscription represents excellent value.

We are also looking for new members for our Supporters group. If you are interested in joining our Supporters Club for the season ahead please contact Elayne or Stephanie in the office at (01) 6689300. Again this is great value and gets you access to all 9 home AIL lunches for the season. It would be brilliant to see more people avail of this and get behind our team for the season ahead.

Some really important dates for your diaries in the weeks ahead:

Firstly on Thursday October 5th  we are having a club members / sponsors social night. We would love to see as many of our members and their respective families down as possible where everyone can meet  / catch up in the club. So please do mark it down in your diary. More details to follow on this in the week ahead.

The AIL formally kicks off on October 7th when we are at home to Young Munster. There are still some spaces at the pre match AIL lunch so if you keen on attending please contact Stephanie at 01 6689300 asap.

Our financial AGM is set for October 26th and there is certainly plenty to get through on that night and we would encourage all members to attend.

Thank you again for your time and I hope to see you at a Lansdowne game soon.

Stephen Rooney

President 2023/24
