The J2’s played a fit and well drilled team from Barnhall on Saturday in HQ for opening honours in the Division 2 Metro League.

It was tit for tat in the first half with ten points a piece. There was still only a point separating the sides with just over 10 minutes to go, but the visitors’ launched successive attacks, with a bit of luck contributing to their penultimate touch down making it 16 – 24 with three minutes to play. A final injury-time try for the men from Maynooth flattered them a little, but they were deserving winners in what neutral observers said was a cracking start to the season.  Full time 16 – 29.

1 try (Alex Caslin) with 1 conversion (Oran James) and 3 penalties.
