Brian Whelan’s J3’s took a good scalp from St. Mary’s (10-17) in the Leinster Rugby Metro League Division 5 on Friday night (Nov 23rd) at Templeville Road.  This puts Lansdowne in 4th place in the League Table with 2 wins to their credit.

Talk about a game of two halves!  Despite of some good phase play and a try from Luis Castro in the early stages, Lansdowne still managed to ship two soft tries to a Marys group that couldn’t believe their luck to be 10 – 5 up at half time.

Spurred on by coach Phil Donelly’s speech at the break, “the first half was Lansdowne versus Lansdowne, let’s go out there now and play Mary’s!”, the lads totally controlled the second half. Just one of many great runs down the centre from Cathal McNamara ended in a try converted by Oran James and another from super sub, Harry Crowley sealed the fate of a Mary’s side that looked glad it was all over at the end.  Great performances all around, especially from 48 year old come-back kid Ian “Beanser” Hopkins  at full back.

The Supporter of the Match award goes to Sean “Dricks” O’Driscoll for his graphic, 65 post WhatsApp blow by blow account of the match!  But special mention must also go to our excellent physio, Orla, who went above and beyond the call of duty, strapping Rob Timlin’s boot back on. “Yes,” she said afterwards, “this is exactly what I studied five years for!”
