Clontarf Rugby Club Girls came to play their South City rivals today on the Aviva back pitch. This was their first visit to HQ and they along with Steve Rooney’s Lansdowne Girls certainly put on an entertaining show for the many spectators. Each club fielded two teams and had two 15 minute games apiece.
The girls play TAG Rugby which suits the running / passing game. Head Coach Steve Rooney and Alan Reddan have the girls well tuned into running lines of rugby and looking for the offload to make best advantage of the gaps that appear. LFC scored a brace of tries early in the first game putting ‘Tarf under pressure. Lansdowne didn’t have it all their own way however, with the Clontarf girls scoring some well crafted tries into the corners showing some great running and passing skills.
Both teams retired to the bar afterwards where the mums, ably assisted by bar staff, David and Martin put on the now traditional show of sambos, buns and drinks. This is the second time these teams have met we hope this will become a regular feature in the calendar.
Many thanks to the Coaches for putting this together and for the girls in putting on a show.
