Lansdowne U20s started the New Year in style with a bonus point win against UCD in Belfield Bowl, and in doing so they retained the Dr.John Craig Cup, which is played for annually between the two clubs.

On a crisp, sunny afternoon, Lansdowne were dominant in the first half, with the pack doing well in set piece.

Lansdowne opened the scoring when Sean Wafer intercepted and ran 40 meters to score out wide. Billy Foley narrowly missed the conversion. Shortly afterwards, after quick hands on the blind side,  Sean Wafer finished well to score his second try which was converted by Billy Foley.

UCD responded well when the drove over under the posts. But then Lansdowne extended their lead when captain Cillian Redmond broke clear and then, right on the strike of half time a deft offload from Redmond sent flanker Jack Loscher in.

Both of these tries were converted by Billy Foley to leave the score at 26-7 at half time.

The second half was a much closer affair, and UCD  scored to narrow the gap with about 20 mins to go. Billy Foley finally slotted a penalty to close out the game and give Lansdowne a well deserved victory.

Once again  the Lansdowne U20s would like to show their appreciation to the large group of supporters who attended.

Next up is MU Barnhall this Sunday at the earlier KO time of 13.15  in Lansdowne Rd.
