During the early stages of the 2019/20 season, John Nolan (Lansdowne FC U16 head coach) & Guy Fagan (Team Manager) were concerned that there were a few boys too young to play U17 and ideally suitable for an u16 season. However it became quite clear that there were not sufficient numbers of players to make a full Lansdowne side.
Similar issues were being experienced in other clubs within the Leinster Metro area which led to some initial discussions between Lansdowne FC, De La Salle Palmerston and Seapoint. John Nolan, Ronan Greany (DLSP) & David Hammond (Seapoint) came to agreement on playing a combined “LDS” squad in the Leinster Metro U16 Premier League along with some fine competition from Clontarf, MU Barnhall, St. Mary’s, Skerries & Newbridge.
LDS made it to the Semi-Final stage in that competition but unfortunately never got to play that fixture before the season was prematurely called off for reasons quite obvious.
That said, the side held the honor of provding 4 boys for the Leinster Rugby Shane Horgan Cup u16 side being, Jack Nolan (LFC), Turlough O’Brien (DLSP), David Donohue (LFC) & Breifne McCann (LFC).
So we may not have brought home the bacon with this squad but there are some lasting friendships established and a healthy respect between the three clubs.
Well done to all concerned – Boys, Parents, Coaches, Clubs & Leinster Branch for a fantastic contribution to the season.
