Lansdowne / DLSP / Seapoint merged Under 16s side had a big battle on their hands on Friday night at HQ.  The weather this February has been very disruptive to fixtures and it is to this end we were playing a league and cup / ‘Winner takes all’ fixture with Mary’s.  Conditions on the night didn’t let up one jot and they can only be described as challenging.

LDS led from the off with a try and a convert and by 25 minutes were 14 – 8 to the better of Mary’s.  However by the end of the first half the Mary’s pack was making itself known and they were leading 14-22 by the half time whistle.  LDS were quick to get back onto the scoreboard and came within a single point 21-22 courtesy of another LDS try by David Naughton (DLSP) and conversions by Brefine McCann (Lansdowne) & Turlough O’Brien.

Yet again however, Mary’s regained control and seemed confident enough to get another try but were unable to convert due to the swirling conditions.  LDS to their credit never gave up and again came to within a point 26-27 of Mary’s courtesy of a Scott Doran (DLSP) try.  This was a much less predictable match than the early season friendly we played Mary’s at the same location some months back.

FT Score LDS 26 – Marys 32

Next match is away to MU Barnhall in Leixlip in the Lenster League with a chance to earn a home Semi-final.
