The Ireland Men’s Sevens team will be one of the 15 core sides on next season’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series after overcoming hosts Hong Kong 28-7 in yesterday’s qualifier final, having seen off Germany 19-10 in a tense semi-final. Featuring 4 Lansdowne players, Ian Fitzpatrick, Foster Horan, Adam Leavy  & John O’Donnell the side will defend their European Sevens title this summer and will also have the Rugby Europe qualifying tournament for the 2020 Olympics in Colomiers, France on July 13-14. The winners of that will advance to the Olympics in Tokyo, with the next two sides booking places at the global Olympic Repechage qualifier in 2020.

The Ireland Men’s Sevens squad will make their debut as a World Series core team when the 2019/20 event begins in Dubai next December. There are ten stops across the season, including Dubai, Cape Town, Hamilton, Sydney, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Paris, with the host location in the USA to be confirmed shortly.

Congratulations to the lads and we wish them the best of luck in their forthcoming matches!
