Dear Members,
It is a great honour to have been elected President of our club at the AGM last night and I would like to thank you all for the opportunity afforded me.
I would specially like us to thank Steve (Roo) Rooney for his incredible service to the club over the past year of his presidency and indeed the 30+years since he joined Lansdowne, Roo’s love of the club has been second to none and equaled by few. We wish him the very best in his future Lansdowne life. Hopefully Maura and the kids will be happy to see a little bit more of him in the coming year.
I see my job as being a servant of the members of the club, the ambassador of the club and a host of our many guests, and opposition over the next year.
There are many jobs to be done across the club, I would like to pay tribute to all the people who put their hand up and volunteer for our club, at last count over 140 individuals volunteering for the club, coaching, managing teams or working on various operational or fundraising activities. Thank you all for your time work and enthusiasm. If you would like to participate and volunteer further, please contact me or any of the committee members directly, we need volunteers from all areas of the club and all walks of life. We are very grateful to every volunteer and putting ones hand up is both rewarding and fun.
In addition to great volunteers the team here in Lansdowne do a fantastic job led by Elayne, supported by Stephanie in events and in the office, Dave and Niall in the bar and Louis for maintenance. I look forward to working closely with the team in the coming year.
We have many of the pieces in place in our club and more parts are being put in place as we go. I am looking forward to working with the executive and with Mick Dawson as chairman and with the continued support of Karl Cleere as treasurer Kieran Walsh as Hon Secretary, Gavin Lee as Vice President, Graham Quinn as the new Junior Vice President, Ian Hopkins as the new Chair of Rugby, Brian Moran on Minis and Youths, Hugh McGauran on Claremont operations, Jack Dwan as Player representative and of course ex Officio Steve Rooney
Thank you all, I am here to serve.
Conor Shaw
