The squad, which included great Lansdowne names such as Quinn, Stafford, Sparks & Forrest took on Clontarf in the League Final in Lansdowne Road. John Sparks crossed for 2 tries and led Lansdowne to an impressive 34-15 victory.

The O’Connell Cup Final will go down as one of the great Victories.

Kevin Quinlan crossed for a try in the first half while Shane Gahan touched down in the corner mid-way through the second half to keep in touch with a determined Old Wesley. Entering the final minutes, Lansdowne found themselves needing a score to force extra time. Enter our very own Pizza expert, Reg White. Reg picked up the ball 40 metres out and raced in to score under the posts for a vital score. The Conversion was added and Extra-Time was required.

Shane Gahan crossed again early in Extra-Time to give Lansdowne a 5 point lead, however the lead changed hands once again when Wesley crashed over for a converted try to go 2 points ahead.

Lansdowne reclaimed the ball from the kickoff and began their assault on the Wesley line. The forwards worked their socks off to set up a chance at a drop goal for Andy Geraghty, who made no mistake and slotted the ball through to posts to make the scores 26-25 to Lansdowne and seal the O’Connell Cup!
