Garryowen 24 Lansdowne 31

Lansdowne U20s travelled to Limerick and  overcame Garryowen in the Quarter Finals of the All Ireland Fraser McMullen Cup on Saturday.

Playing into the wind, Garryowen started well and rumbled over from a line out to open the scoring.

However, in the space of a few minutes, Lansdowne scored twice, both coming from intercepts from Brian O’Donnell and Sean ‘Snoopy’ Galvin.

Both tries were converted by Stephen Madigan. Garryowen responded with another try off a line out.

Lansdowne were dominating now, and increased their lead with a penalty from Stephen Madigan.

From the restart, Garryowen were reduced to 14 after their flanker was red-carded for an illegal collision with winger Cillian Redmond.

So at half time Lansdowne led 17-12 with an extra man advantage

Straight from the restart, and straight off the training ground, Sean Galvin collected from Stephen Madigan and quickly fed Cillian Redmond to score out wide.

This was well converted by Stephen Madigan to leave the score at 24-12 and things were looking good for Lansdowne.

To their credit Garryowen kept coming back, and in scored twice to level the game.

In a tense and exciting last 10 minutes, Tony Doyle broke from 10 meters and reached out to give the U20s the lead. Again, Stephen Madigan converted.

Garryowen threw everything into attack and pulverized the Lansdowne line for sevearl phases before captain David Lynch jackled the ball from the Garryowen prop as he was going over the line.  And that was that. A stunning win on the road which gives the U20s a home semi final against DUFC this Saturday.
