For many of John Martins 2009 U9 boys this was their furthest travelled blitz.  9am on a sunny sunday morning but just as the clocks go back, they boarded two coaches on Lansdowne Road and headed down to gracious hosts Mullingar RFC for their Four Province blitz.  For many also, this was their first taste of playing teams outside of Leinster and teams like Old Crescent, Galwegians, Sligo RFC, Tullamore, Mullingar and others gave the lads a taste for the tough compettition ahead.

John managed to field four good teams, each taking at least two scalps but very capable of holding their own against the opposition that presented a much tougher challenge.    3 or 4 games apiece, the boys did well and even our sole female player Katherine Phelan did very well under pressure to get in under a potential try scoring opportunity and hold the ball up.  She even managed to meet a hero along the way.  Well done Katherine, we’ll have more of that please.

Thanks as usual to John for all the hard work organising the trip and to all his coaches for the effort they put in.  Also, thanks to Elayne Power in the office for helping with the travel arrangements.  Thanks also to Mullingar RFC for hosting a great event.

Nothing happening next week due to the Easter break, but watch out for Teamer notifications for the resumption of training in prep for the annual Belvo Blitz.
