Lansdowne U12s fielded two teams ( Timberwolves & Bullsharks) in a round robin series against Wanderers and Bective Rangers RFC on Sunday on the 4G pitch, from the kick off Lansdowne got “stuck in “
Solid attacks from the Lansdowne back lines kept the visitors on the back foot and carries from our forwards ensured the momentum was in our favour.
Setanta Kelly & Evan Hayes made significant carries against Wanderers , punching holes through the Wanderer defence in open play, while quick ruck ball from scrum half Alex Crawley to our speedy backs , marshalled by Teddy Corrigan ensured
Wanderers had to scramble to make last ditch tackles to keep the Lansdowne boys in check.
Zachy Bouchery, Cathal Troy and Myles Berman continued to make line breaks, while defensively Bobby Colbert and JJ Hamilton put in hard tackles around the pitch to stop Wanderers from gaining any meaningful counter attack.
Meanwhile our Bullsharks mirrored the same form in their game against Bective, Andrew McGauran in typical form, hunting down any Bective player that dared go near the ball. Jed Hickey kept the back line structured in attack and defence even when an unfortunate ankle injury robbed us of Stefi Saroli’s darting speed in the backs. The boys regrouped with Rory Jones making huge gains up the middle swim lane and proved hard to handle, however the Bective pack were solid and it took concerted efforts from Ben Tynan, Tadgh Noone and Josh Byrne to keep them at bay, putting in massive effort at the rucks and open tackles.
Long ‘looping runs’ from Fintan Lydon and determined straight running from Callum Doyle , supported by Tadgh Noone gave us a solid attack and overall it was great to see all the boys implement some of the key concepts that we have been working on over the past few weeks in training such as pop ball, swim lane running and sharp passing.
Well done to all the boys & Coaches and thanks again to the parents for coming out in numbers to support!
