Ok so we didn’t quite get the glorious blue skies and high teens temperatures that Olivier’s boys got yesterday in Cork Con but we did have 3 class visiting teams to HQ in the guise of Balbriggan, Clane and Coolmine.  We knew we were in for some tough opposition as the visitors had arrived at least 15 minutes before the hosts and were well warmed up before John Martin got his charges sorted and organised into teams.  There were some great skills on display by all concerned with some notable committed tackling by our own John Paul Connaughton who is new to the Under 9 boys this season.  Harry Martin (as can be evidenced in the photos) was doing his usual hard carrying and by all accounts it took at least 3 tacklers to dislocate the ball.

We had to clear the pitch fairly quickly as LFC was hosting back to back open events.  The under 11’s were hosting Scottish rivals Heriots Rugby on the same pitch at 10:30.  Their grand entrance to the tune of “Flower of Scotland” played on the pipes by one of their young players, certainly had the home crowd entertained aswell.

All 4 teams retired to the downstairs Gym bar which had been setup by the parents with the usual assortment of goodies for the tourists.  Many thanks to all who contributed their time to the Blitz.  Thanks to the visiting teams of Balbriggan, Clane and Coolmine.  We wish you an enjoyable summer recess and we’ll see you all again next season.

Many thanks to Fionn McCann (who’s son Naoise is part of the team) for providing the excellent photography of the day.  Fionn can be contacted HERE
