Welcome

Kieran J Mulligan

President of Lansdowne FC 2018-19

As we enter our 146th season at Lansdowne FC, it is indeed my great privilege & honour to extend a ‘Cead Mile Failte’ to all our members, players, & guests as we commence the 2018 /19 season as the defending All Ireland League Champions (thanks Butch, Prendo et al). This year we are captained by Eamonn Mills and we are again coached by the brilliant Mike Ruddock and his backroom team who are superbly assisted by our Director of Rugby Stephen Rooney and Chairman of Rugby Colin Goode.

The U20’s are the true backbone of the club and I want to take this opportunity to wish our long serving & loyal Head coach Declan Fassbender & his team all the best in the season ahead and best wishes also to Will Matthews, head coach of the J1’s, Adam Griggs Head Coach of the J2’S & J3’S and Ian ‘Beanser’ Hopkins who is our new Director of Junior Rugby.

After 16 years coaching & managing Mini & Youth rugby teams at Lansdowne FC, it’s time for me to ‘hang up my boots’ and welcome our new Chairman of M&Y Brian Moran as well as Owen Lydon & Will Mathews who will serve as Director & Head Coach of M&Y respectively. They regularly have 450 boys & girls (U7 to U17) on the pitch every Sunday so make no mistake about it, this is the future of Lansdowne FC. Thanks must also go to Kieran Walsh, outgoing Chairman of M&Y and I look forward to working with him in his new role as Honorary Secretary.

In addition to the new 4G pitch and LED floodlights, you will notice many improvements around the clubhouse which have been overseen in the ‘off season’ by the House committee under the chairmanship of past president Simon Coyle. Amongst the many changes are the newly installed ‘state of the art’ gym, new furniture & flooring throughout the clubhouse including the Members Bar, Presidents room & Zurich room as well as a new Trophy & Memorabilia cabinet with many more improvements to be implemented during the season ahead.

When it comes to saying ‘Thank You’, there are too many people to mention in a club that depends on so many volunteers but on the business side of the club which is run 365 days a year, I would like to thank Michael Diskin, Elayne Power & Louis Preston together with Dave Mangan and his team in the bar. I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank all our corporate partners and sponsors without whose support this great club would not survive. A special mention to first team player Alan Bennie, Paul Van Cauwelaert, Willie Hawkins & John Dawson for producing the yearbook and not forgetting Michael O’Brien for his unstinting work around the club on all things photography, social media and on our new website where he collaborated with Brian Moran and Guy Fagan.

I would also like to thank the Executive for all their sterling work & support shown to me particularly by my Vice President Derry Shaw and last but not least, I want to say a big thanks to my wife Tash & our children for their unwavering support over the last three years. Finally, I have to say that nothing makes me happier than seeing my own kids ‘tog out’ in the Lansdowne colours every week and as I look forward to the season ahead,  I hope that you will join me on the side-lines and/or in the clubhouse afterwards to watch one of the many Senior, U20, Junior, Minis, Youths & Girls rugby matches that will played ‘home & away’ throughout the season ahead.

President 2018/19

Eamonn Mills

Captain of Lansdowne FC 2018-19

Members and visitors, players, supporters and referees, it is my great pleasure to welcome you all to Lansdowne FC. At the outset of my fourth season at the club, it is a huge honour to have been chosen to be Lansdowne Club Captain 2018-2019.

I have been fortunate enough to play in the All Ireland league for the past 7 years, with Lansdowne consistently the standard bearers. My Lansdowne journey began after arriving from Cork in 2015 and over the course of these last 3 seasons, I have begun to understand what makes this club great. Lansdowne’s facilities, coaching staff and support structures are second to none. These, combined with Lansdowne’s values and traditions, are the foundation on which the squad’s recent successes have been built. I’m sure this year will be no different!

We are fortunate to have retained the services of Mike Ruddock and Mark McHugh as first team coaches for the coming season, supported by Will Matthews. Dave Tighe, as Strength & Conditioning coach, and Damian O’Sullivan, as nutritionist, also continue in their respective positions. Andy McDonough, the squad’s physio for the last 5 years has taken a step back from LFC to focus on his continued work with the Ireland Women’s team. Best of Luck Andy, I hope we continue to see you in Lansdowne this season. Andy is succeeded in his position by Niamh Connolly.  The work that Dave, Damian and Niamh do preparing players for success on the pitch is hugely important and valued by all! Additionally, the back-room team of Steve Rooney (Director of Rugby), Colin Goode (Chairman of Rugby) and Paddy Gore (Manager) remain intact. We simply could not be successful on the pitch without their tireless input.

I would like to congratulate the many Lansdowne players who have been rewarded for their performances last season with representative honours. Congratulations to Ronan Kelleher, Peter O’Sullivan, Harry Byrne and Tom Roche for their involvement with the Ireland U20’s last season. I would like to congratulate Adam Leavy, Foster Horan and to Ian Fitzpatrick for their involvement in the Irish 7’s squad. Their performances in the recent world series events in London and Paris, and in the 7’s world cup in San Francisco were just rewards for the huge effort and dedication which they have shown over the last period. Best of luck in the upcoming season men!

Outside of the professional game, I would also like to congratulate Dan McEvoy, Harry Brennan and Jack Dwan who represented the Irish Amateurs last season alongside myself, and to Dan, Harry, Scott Deasy and Mike Ruddock for their recognition in last season’s UBL awards. It’s also great to see Lansdowne’s Amateur contingent recognised nationally for their excellent performances last year.

While there have been departures from the senior squad, we are excited to welcome several new players, including some familiar faces from previous successful campaigns. This, along with a number of promising graduates from last season’s U20’s squad has helped to develop some very healthy competition in the squad. To those players who have moved on from Lansdowne, thank you for your efforts and best of luck in the future.

Finally, on behalf of all the players I would like to thank all our sponsors, especially Zurich, whose continued support contributes to the success of Lansdowne FC.   To our President Kieran Mulligan and his committees, I wish you all the best for the upcoming season and thank you for your continued support. From our minis to our Senior squad, best of luck to all players who represent Lansdowne this season!
