The U20s retained top spot in the JP Fanagan Premier 1 League with a hard earned win over Trinity.
After a pulsating start from Lansdowne, Trinity held out well until captain Cillian Redmond opened the scoring for the 20s which was duly converted by Stephen Madigan.
After Lansdowne failed to find touch from a penalty, Trinity attacked and from a subsequent lineout, Lansdowne were pinged for a maul collapse and the visiting students were awarded a penalty try.
In the last play before half time, the ball was dislodged in a Lansdowne attack, and the Trinity winger ran in far wide for a well converted try to leave the score at 14-7 at half time.
Lansdowne were then awarded their own penalty try after a scrum collapse, and then, from the best move of the match, winger Sean Waifer finished well to score a wonderfully worked try.
Stephen Madigan converted.
With about 5 minutes to go, Trinity converted an easy penalty to leave the score at 21-17. From the kick off, the students attacked relentlessly but Lansdowne’s defense was resolute to the end.
A cracking game of rugby!
